TEXTILE TAKEOVER 2024

At Scandinavia House in New York, a captivating weekend in September was dedicated to contemporary textile art. Guests immersed themselves in a vibrant program that featured an Artist Talk and panel discussion with Nordic textile artists on Saturday, followed by a collective textile workshop and performance on Sunday. Throughout the weekend, the gallery at Scandinavia House showcased an exhibition that highlighted the diverse techniques and expressions of Nordic textile artists.

Visitors experienced the works of Nordic artists who participated in the event, offering workshops and presenting their creations over the course of two days. In addition, two esteemed Swedish schools—the University of Gothenburg’s HDK-Valand and the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås—presented works by their talented graduates, further enriching the exhibition.

Textile Takeover aimed to cultivate artistic collaborations in textiles between the Nordic countries and the USA, with a series of public events planned for 2024 and 2025 at Scandinavia House in New York. These events included artist talks, workshops, and exhibitions centered around different themes in textile craft, encouraging dialogue and exploration between artists from the Nordic region and the USA.

This initiative was presented in collaboration with New York Textile Month, underscoring a shared commitment to celebrating textile artistry on a global stage.
